A Letter from Michael Badger
Hello,
I pray you all are doing well! I wanted to personally reach out to you for a special request for prayer.
As you all know, Roe v. Wade was overturned. This is a momentous occasion for the right to life of the unborn children who have been made in the image of God. Sadly, the Supreme Court ruling does not currently matter very much in the state of Vermont. Abortion remains unrestricted, meaning that a mother can choose to kill her child all the way up to nine months.
This November, the citizens of VT will be voting on Prop. 5 which seeks to codify the right to abortion in the Vermont state constitution. On top of that, since the overturning of Roe v. Wade, the terror group, Jane's Revenge, has been involved in vandalizing and firebombing pregnancy resources centers across the country and they have an active presence in Vermont (see attached image at bottom of email; Jane's Revenge claimed responsibility for vandalism at Vermont State House building).
1. As some of you may know, we are a part of a small family of churches in Vermont (aptly named "Our Family of Churches'). This October, we are hosting a pro-life conference that will have a three-pronged focus;
2. To equip believers (and possibly even non-believers) with the tools to confront the pro-abortion culture of death here in Vermont in a firm, yet loving manner. We are in the process of bringing up pro-life educator and speaker, Marc Newman, to be our keynote speaker, to educate the attendees on the current laws on abortion in Vermont, the details of Prop. 5, and how they can get involved locally to help advocate for life. We will have two women who are on the front lines of the fight against abortion here in Vermont speak on these issue. to share the gospel.
3. Lastly, Abortion, to put it in the simplest possible terms, is a sin. It is the degradation and murdering of children who have been wonderfully and magnificently made in the Imago Dei, in the image of God. This means that what is needed, above all, is for those championing abortion to hear the good news of Jesus and experience being born again. We, as believers, should have a desire to see the unborn saved AND to see souls saved by the redeeming power of Christ.
We believe this will be a fairly large event. We are inviting pastors and their congregations, pregnancy resources organizations, and many others to this event. We will also be advertising across a variety of mediums. This event will be held in Burlington, the largest and most left-leaning city in Vermont. With this being the case, we are expecting that there will be protests and the potential that we will catch the eye of Jane's Revenge.
I ask you to be praying for this event in October. We do not know what sort of security threats may come our way but we know that we must, through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, boldly stand firm on the truth of God's word. There have been many churches in Vermont that have wavered or remained silent on this issue, but we simply cannot do that. We believe that God has called us to, "...do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God." (Micah 6:8). We also believe that we are to, "...not be ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God unto salvation for everyone who believes," (Romans 1:16).
Even in the face of persecution, we are to proclaim the gospel with all confidence, knowing that it has the power to save even the most hardened pro-abortion advocate!
Thank you all for your support and prayers! Know that God is moving in mighty ways in Vermont and I am so thankful you all are a part of that good work.
In Christ,
Michael Badger
