Discovery U (DU) is one of our strategies for making MATURE disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ who advance God's Kingdom, by His power, for His glory. DU consists of MATURE core classes and electives which help disciples grow in their knowledge of God and His word. DU meets in 6 week sessions on Sunday nights from 5:00 – 6:30PM.
This class is a study of end-time theology. While we know that Christ will come back to claim His own, there are different views on what will happen. This study will discuss the various views of the end times and explore the scriptural foundations for each.
This study is based on the recent movie Courageous and will take the class deeper into biblical truths for a godly family, exploring topics such as redeeming your history, walking with integrity, winning and blessing the hearts of your children, and more. Every session involves watching a clip from the movie Courageous to help facilitate discussion, and daily readings from "The Resolution for Men" and "The Resolution for Women" will help you connect with God and His best plan for your family. Haven’t seen the movie yet? Join us on March 3 at 3BC in the worship center at 6:00 pm to see the movie in its entirety.
This class is a continuation from Winter Session I and is not able to take new class members. However, if you are interested in taking this class in the future, please sign your name on the class list so that we will if there is interest for another class. Please be aware that the class costs $93/family.
In this class, you will spend the six weeks with some basic concepts of how to share your faith combined with some hands on ministry experiences. These experiences will include personal evangelism, ministering to our shut-ins, and hands on service projects. This class is a combination of the E and R Core classes.
Gospel in Life, by Tim Keller, is a study on the gospel and how it is lived out in all of life— first in our hearts, then in community, and out into the world. The course opens with the theme of the city: our home now, the world that is. The last session closes the course with the theme of the eternal city: our heavenly home, the world that is to come. In between we will look at how the gospel changes our hearts, changes our community, and changes how we live in the world.
Cost for materials is $10.
Walking as Jesus Walked is part 2 of a 12 week study of the life of Christ that will go deep in understanding what the Scriptures mean in 1 John 2:6 when it says, "Whoever claims to live in Him must walk as Jesus did." Our prayer is that we will gain a fresh look at Christ and see in His humanity a model of how God intended us to live life. Allow the Spirit of God to teach us . . . look honestly at the Scriptures . . . and allow Him to transform our life. Hebrews 3:1 in The Message version of the Bible challenges us "to take a good hard look at Jesus. He's the centerpiece of everything we believe."
This is 12 week course and has a manual that goes along with it that will cost the student $15.00
Does the command to love God with all our heart, soul, and mind really obligate us to enjoy God above all things? Joy and delight are emotions after all, so isn't such love simply a decision of the will, not a feeling? According to John Piper, emotions are commanded everywhere in Scripture.
They're not just instructions to think a certain way but to feel a certain way. And though we don't have complete control of our emotions, eternity hangs on the presence of proper affections for God. Therefore, the fight for joy is not optional. It is essential. This study guide explores the necessity and strategies of delighting in Christ in the all-important fight for joy.
Cost for materials is $10.
As teenagers go through this study, they will begin to understand and rejoice in God’s good design in creating men and women fully equal in His image, yet with different roles. By showing students that male-female differences are rooted in God’s created design, students are led to acknowledge that the only way we can understand who we are as men and women is to come to terms with the Creator and what He tells us about ourselves in Scripture.
This class will lay the foundation for becoming mature Christian men and women as students navigate their way through life amid the gender confusion and distorted messages they are receiving from the world.
